Chicken Braised in White Wine

This has been a long time favorite of mine but I realized I have yet to share the recipe with you! I highly recommend this simple and delicious recipe. The original recipe is a stew, with a broth-like braising liquid, but I prefer to thicken it a bit and pour it over the meal for extra flavor and a heartier presentation. The best part is that this is a one pot meal and finished relatively fast for a braised meat dish.

Chicken Braised in White Wine
adapted from Williams-Sonoma

1/3 c. all-purpose flour plus 2 Tbsp, divided
Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
8 chicken pieces pieces (I used breast, thighs and leg pieces)
2 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
1 yellow onion, thinly sliced
8 oz white button mushrooms, quartered
2 c. white wine
3 garlic cloves, crushed
4 fresh flat-leaf parsley sprigs
3 fresh thyme sprigs
1 bay leaf
2 lb. red-skinned potatoes, cut into 1/2-inch pieces

-Preheat an oven to 375 degrees.
-In a large bowl, combine 1/3 c. flour, salt and pepper. Add the chicken and toss to coat evenly.
-In a Dutch oven over medium heat, warm the olive oil to almost smoking.
-Add half of the chicken and brown on all sides, 3 to 4 minutes total.
-Transfer to a plate.
-Brown the remaining chicken and transfer to the plate.
-Add the onion and mushrooms to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden, about 5 minutes.
-Remove the pan from the heat and add the wine.
-Set the pan over high heat and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, to reduce, about 5 minutes.
-Return the chicken to the pan and add the garlic, parsley, thyme, bay leaf and potatoes.
-Bring to a boil, cover and transfer to the oven.
-Cook until the chicken is very tender, about 45 minutes.
-Season with salt and pepper, remove the bay leaf and place chicken, potatoes and mushrooms.
-Place Dutch oven over medium high heat.
-Add flour and whisk to combine, stirring constantly, until thickened, about 2 minutes.
-Pour thickened braising sauce over chicken and serve immediately. Serves 4.

For the love of SHOES!

My shoe infatuation has lingered since ... well since I decided I liked decorating the house more than shopping for shoes! I always liked finding great deals on shoes, but have found that a lot of the shoes I find these days are, well just not something you can wear on a daily basis!

Well I just found this store- Studio 32

You guessed it $32 or less

More small ideas

I remember going to a photographers house when we lived in Menlo Park. She had a studio in her backyard, it reminds me of these:

Small Homes

Seems like these days most people aspire to a large home. I think that I am the opposite. I love the new small home movement. I find it fascinating what you can do with a space under 1000 sq ft if it is planned well. I came across a blog dedicated to small homes: Tiny House Blog she has great information!

I came across Nonya's work on another Bloggers site. The first picture is a 500 sq ft home that only have a budget of $25,000. The next pictures you can find on her site as well.

Now that I am down to 1 class!

I am running around with my ideas book for the house, similar to my binder for the wedding!

Right now I am kvelling ( Kha-vell-ing) over this chair from overstock.com. I don't want a house full of animal prints but one accent wouldn't be so bad right?

But its $209 YIKES! Don't think I will be bringing this one home anytime soon, but a girl can dream!
